I have worked as a substitute teacher in schools in Auburn, Elmira, Spencer, and Port Byron, NY. After substituting in Spencer, I found a great deal of happiness working in that district. This led to me accepting a TA position in a 4.1.2 special education classroom at Spencer Van Etten Middle school. After starting my MAT program, I had the opportunity to develop my practice in two amazing placements, one in a seventh grade classroom in Horseheads, NY, and another at Spencer Van Etten High School teaching eleventh grade. Upon completion of my MAT, I went to work as a teacher at Finn Academy, a Charter School in Elmira, New York. While there I taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grade social studies, helped to develop a social studies curriculum, and delivered engaging lessons to a group of ethnically and economically diverse students. In addition, I had the opportunity to retool my curriculum and teaching style for online learning during the COVID shutdown that engulfed the latter half of my first year of teaching, as well as a short stint during the first half of my second year. In 2021, I moved to Georgia and began teaching social studies and coaching football at Indian Creek Middle School, a Title I public school in Covington, GA. This posting has involved a number of new challenges, but has provided me with the opportunity to add new strategies to my teaching repertoire.
